We are so proud of our first purebred Connemara colt, Elhanan’s Coup de Chance, born June 4th, 2021 by Coud’ Poker Tartifume out of Searah’s Celtic Legacy. Chance has been through “Kindergarten” this past season - coming in and out of our busy training barn, grooming, tacking and untacking, wearing a bridle and saddle, lunging, having a rider mount and sit, and preparing for undersaddle work. He begins his official undersaddle training this year and we are so excited about him! Chance has the best attitude, always looking forward to learning new things. We gelded late and allowed his hormones to work for better development and I’m so glad we did. He’s just so darn pretty! This gelding’s pedigree reads like a Who’s Who’s of Notable Connemara’s.
Searah’s Celtic Legacy, "Penny" is a 2016 14.2H gray Connemara mare by Tullymor’s Mountain Thunder out of Good Earth Victory Go Bragh by Hideaway’s Erin Go Bragh X Grange Finn Sparrow. Tullymor’s Mountain Thunder, by Tullymor’s Flying Ace out of Kahula, is 14.1 H with an impressive 8.5in bone and is a wonderful stallion who’s offspring are exceptional movers with excellent conformation.
Penny’s dam sire, Hideaway Farm’s talented stallion Erin Go Bragh, was undoubtedly one of the most well-known Connemaras in recent history. Despite his diminutive size (15.1 hh) he was an immensely successful eventer, and in a competitive career that spanned more than a decade, Erin Go Bragh represented the Connemara breed in driving as well as eventing. In addition to competing successfully at Advanced level, he also sired more than 225 foals, had a starring role in the children’s documentary “The Little Horse That Could”, received the honor of being named Breyer Horse of the Year in 1988, and he was also included by the Chronicle of the Horse in the Top 100 Horses of the 20th Century. Erin Go Bragh passed away in 2013 but his descendants continue his legacy of athletic success.
Penny’s Granddam’s sire, Grange Finn Sparrow, had two of his offspring made it to the 4* level, contesting Rolex Kentucky, and many, many more competed at the upper levels. Seven offspring, both purebred and halfbred Connemaras, made it to the Advanced level. He has sired individuals that competed in upper level dressage, one of whom was in Lendon Gray's Dressage 4 Kids program; top jumpers, Pony Finals contenders, foxhunters and even a son that competed on Allison Stroud's famous four-in-hand driving team.
Bred in France, Coud'Poker Tartifume “Cooper” the 2023 ACPS CONNEMARA OF THE YEAR, by Westide Mirah II out of a dam by Quitus de la Loue (Dexter Leam Pondi) out of a Don Juan V x Naughty Van Graaf Janshof mare. International and Grand Prix ponies can be found on both sides of his pedigree. His dam line boasts Grand Prix ponies such as Ni Oui Ni Non Tartifume and Violin II. His sire Westide Mirah II (WM2) needs no introduction, having jumped several Grand Prixs with child riders, currently jumps with an adult in the 1m25 and has won a 1m45 Puissance. His grandsire, Westside Mirah, is one of Ireland’s most successful sires of showjumping ponies.
Coud'Poker's dam sires Dexter Leam Pondi and Don Juan also need no introduction. Dexter Leam Pondi participated in Six European Championship, winning 2 team medals and once placed 7th individually. He won 5 Grand prix CSIP. Don Juan V was also a Grand Prix Pony and is well known for having produced at least 15 offspring with IPO of 145 and greater.
Cooper is currently competing Intermediate Eventing and 1.15m jumping. Has completed both a 2*S and two 2*L with qualifying scores for FEI 3*. Cooper is currently the only Connemara Stallion in the United States competing at this level in both Eventing and Open Jumpers, and he is doing it very successfully. In addition to being 2023 ACPS Connemara of the Year, Cooper also won 2022 US Eventing Pony of the Year (Theodore O'Connor memorial Trophy), 2022 USEF Horse of the Year Champion Purebred Open Jumper, 2022 USEF Horse of the Year Reserve Champion high point eventing Purebred or halfbred at the Upper Levels (Modified and above), 2021 McKenna Trophy/USEF horse of the year for Eventing Modified through Advanced for all pure and partbred Connemaras nationally, and many many other fabulous awards.
